Atelier Sougeikan(Edo Moji (Edo Style Characters))

Edomoji is Japanese designed lettering style actively used in the Edo Period. Characters which is rich in the emotions of the Edo period used for Sumo wrestling, Kabuki, Yose (variety theater), Chochin (paper lantern) and Senjafuda (slips of paper posted on shrine pillars by pilgrims)are collectively called “Edo Moji”.
Edo Moji was derived from styles of Japanese calligraphy such as “Oie-ryu” and “Shorenin”.
Edo Moji includes “Kantei-ryu” used for Kabuki, “Sumoji” used for a Banzuke chart, “Yose Moji” used at Rakugo Theater.
